How Assisted Living Communities Bring People Together: Building Connection Through Community, Family & Fun

An assisted living community is more than a place to live. It’s a place to belong. At Sommerset Neighborhood, community comes to life through the relationships built between residents, families, staff, friends, and neighbors. From everyday conversations and shared meals to special events and celebrations, these connections help create a welcoming senior living environment where everyone has a chance to feel included.

Creating Connection Through Shared Experiences

One of the greatest benefits of assisted living is the opportunity to build meaningful friendships and stay socially active. Community activities give residents opportunities to discover new interests, share their talents, celebrate milestones, and make memories together.

Families and friends are an important part of that experience, too. Their involvement helps strengthen connections between residents and the larger community. At the same time, compassionate assisted living staff play an important role in creating an atmosphere where residents feel supported, valued, and encouraged to participate.

Recently, Sommerset Neighborhood had the opportunity to bring that spirit of togetherness to the stage during the Karaoke Challenge: “Cruising the Seas,” competing alongside other senior living communities.

Sommerset transformed into The Lido Deck, bringing the excitement of a cruise ship right to the community. Residents and team members came together to sing, cheer, and celebrate. The event was about much more than karaoke; it was about friendship, teamwork, laughter, and making unforgettable memories alongside residents and staff from other senior communities.

At Sommerset Neighborhood, we believe senior living is about living fully, staying connected, and creating meaningful moments together. Whether it’s a community-wide celebration, an afternoon activity, or simply sharing a laugh with a neighbor, every interaction helps make assisted living feel like home.

Because when residents, families, friends, and staff come together, they create something special: a true sense of community.

Join In

Try joining an activity, event, or friendly competition—even if it’s something you’ve never done before. You may discover a new interest, make a new friend, or simply enjoy sharing a fun experience with others.

Share Your Talents

Everyone has something special to share. Singing, storytelling, crafting, cooking, or simply sharing a favorite memory can provide opportunities to contribute and connect with others.

Invite Family & Friends

Community grows stronger when loved ones are included. Encourage families and friends to join meals, activities, celebrations, and special events to create meaningful memories together.

Celebrate Each Other

Take time to recognize the accomplishments, personalities, and unique contributions of residents and staff. Celebrating one another helps create a welcoming community where everyone feels valued and appreciated.

Celebrating Every Summer Moment

At Sommerset Neighborhood, we believe the best part of summer isn’t just the sunshine—it’s the smiles we share along the way. Every activity, gathering, and visit is an opportunity to build friendships, celebrate the season, and make each day meaningful.

Whether residents are enjoying time with neighbors, participating in community events, or welcoming family for a visit, July is filled with opportunities to create lasting memories. Together, we’re making this summer one to remember.
